Accessibility

Our website aims to be as accessible as possible to all visitors and for all pages to meet Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

The Pathfinder West Sussex website is run by West Sussex Mind. We have built this website to be as accessible as possible with common assistive technologies and different ways of using websites.

This means that you can use your device or browser controls to: increase the font size or zoom in on content; navigate most of the website using just a keyboard; access other media content, such as images and videos through captions.

Customising your experience

We have created the site to be as accessible as possible, but you may have a better experience if you change the settings on your computer to suit your individual needs. For example, you can change the website’s colours, increase the text size or have the site spoken aloud.

In order to customise your experience on this website, using your device's accessibility features or by installing new assistive technologies, it is worth looking at AbilityNet’s guide, called My Computer My Way. This includes guidance on accessing the wide range of accessibility and personalisation tools that are built into computers, tablets and mobile phones. If you customise your computer, this will help you adapt your technology to make it easier to use all websites, not just this one.

Accessibility features

We aim for this website to be as accessible as possible by ensuring that:

  • Layout and structure are consistent throughout the site
  • All content is clear and concisely written
  • Font sizes are scalable and large enough for most people to read comfortably.
Press Ctrl + / Ctrl – to increase or decrease font sizes throughout the site
  • There is a strong contrast between background colours and text for good legibility
  • Most of the images on the site have ‘alt text’ to describe them for people using screen readers or for those disabling images due to slow internet connection
  • Decorative images do not have ‘alt text’, as this can be distracting for people using screen readers
  • Headings are used correctly, with a semantic structure that helps screen readers to navigate the site correctly
  • The website is compatible with Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer 11 and above, Safari, Firefox and Chrome.

How can we improve accessibility

We have done our best to maximise the accessibility of our site, but we are aware of some limitations. Some potential issues are:

  • Embedded videos can sometimes be difficult to use with assistive technology
  • We do not provide audio descriptions for videos, but we aim to provide captions for our videos.

If you come across any content on our website that you cannot access, please contact us at communications@westsussexmind.org and we will do our best to provide you with an alternative that is accessible to you.
