Mental Health Support

The NHS and SHOUT have launched a new text messaging mental health support service across Sussex. Text SUSSEX to 85258 for support.

A brand new text support service went live in Sussex this week to help anyone who is having a challenging time with their emotional wellbeing or mental health. On Monday 4 July, the NHS and SHOUT launched free, confidential and 24/7 text messaging support for people across the county.

SHOUT has already helped thousands of people across the country since its launch in 2019 by Mental Health Innovations and it hopes to help even more people with the launch of this new service.

The new Sussex service provides quick and easy-to-access support to texters, enabling them to have a conversation with a trained volunteer and access real-time support if they are feeling anxious, stressed, depressed, suicidal or overwhelmed. All conversations are monitored by trained supervisors and texters can be signposted to local mental health services (or emergency services as required). One of the aims is to reduce and prevent self-harm and suicide.

To access the service, simply text SUSSEX to 85258 for free, confidential and 24/7 support. For more information about how the service works, check out this video: (3) Shout 85258 | How Shout works - YouTube

Please spread the word about the new service.
