Be Active

Being active is great for your physical health and fitness but evidence shows it can also improve your mental wellbeing.

Many people think that the mind and body are separate but what you do with your body can have a powerful effect on your mental wellbeing. Mental wellbeing means feeling good both about yourself and the world around you and being able to get on with life in the way you want.

Evidence shows that there is a link between being physically active and good mental wellbeing.

Tips and ideas

Go for a walk or run. Step outside. Cycle. Play a game. Garden. Dance. Do yoga. Take a walk on windy day. Swim in the sea. Exercising makes you feel good. Most importantly, discover a physical activity you enjoy and that suits your level of mobility and fitness.

Get Active is one of the Five ways to Wellbeing, evidence based steps we can all take to improve our mental wellbeing developed by the New Economics Foundation. The other ways are: Connect, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give. Take a look at our other tips for staying well.
